ZERO DEFECTS - THE ONLY WORK STANDARD AT MCS MEDICAL

Quality control is inherent at precision engineers, MCS Medical - it is integrated into every single aspect of the business and is reflected in the company's ethos, which is based upon zero defects.

Keith Richards, Quality Systems Manager with MCS Medical, explains: "Every single contract no matter how large or small, has more than a dozen QC stages built into the production process. We start in pre-production with the creation of the Advanced Product Planning Report, which ensures that the specification and tolerances are laid down to the customer's exact requirements. As work progresses, a process control plan monitors production quality.

"AT MCS Medical the entire team takes great pride in the quality of work, with all contracts peer-checked by other members of the engineering team, not only person to person but also instrument to instrument for added peace of mind."

All components engineered by MCS Medical also benefit from photometry. By utilising a computer controlled Profile 50 optical projector, which provides measurement via a non-contact beam of light, components can be produced to extremely accurate tolerances, within just two microns - which equates to approximately 1/75th the diameter of the average human hair.

Keith adds: "Customers tell us our components not only meet their stringent specifications but in many instances surpass them. This has resulted in one particular client implementing a number of our QC procedures into his own production facility."

MCS has been approved by BSI to ISO9001/2000 and is currently seeking accreditation to ISO14001 and the new Medical Devices Standard BS EN ISO 13485:2003.
